Who are going to be the candidates who have done more than that though? I think we need to be realistic about the level of manager that we're going to be attracting. I would be over the moon if we somehow land someone who is head and shoulders above someone like Marsch but I think he's going to be just about the level that we're able to realistically attract.
While I don't care too much about the anti-American view, I totally agree with you regarding Marsch's "accomplishments". Anyone could have won two Austrian Bundesligas with Salzburg, and his time at Leipzig was an absolute disaster.
Crazy that Tani Oluwaseyi has 5 goal contributions in 219 minutes, or 2.05 goal contributions per 90. That's the definition of an impact sub right there.
On paper, Marsch is probably a solid hire (especially considering the finances and current timeline for wanting a new man in place). And in practice, it would feel like Scotland hiring an English manager - just sort of wrong.
Watching these Coaches Voice videos of Marsch actually calms my nerves about him as our coach. This one also highlights how impressively he's gone all in on learning new cultures and language while in Europe (dare I say the way Canadians like to think we would do) and the Germany experiences might even help him understand how to get the best out of Davies:
It's going to be a leaner year than previous years, I think. Though the title for Buchanan is nice.
Still possible:
Alphonso Davies - Bayern Munich (Champions League semi-finals)
Alistair Johnston – Celtic FC (Scottish Premier League title – 1st, Scottish Cup – finals)
Stephen Eustaquio - Porto (Taca de Portugal - finals)
